Hamburg, NY --- A bad accident marred the running of the 11th race on Friday night (July 2) at Buffalo Raceway.

It appeared that Odessa Angus (D. J. Millner) took a bad step entering the stretch and went down to the ground, causing a chain reaction pile up. Driver Jimmy Whisman’s injury seemed the most serious, and he was on his way to the medical center to have his leg looked at. The injured horses, Odessa Angus and Lady Coyote, went back to the paddock and their condition was not yet known as of this writing.

In the $9,000 Open Handicap Trot, Hello Carlo ($6.00) a Carry The Message gelding out of the Supergill mare Last Turn, won in 1:59.4 to register his eighth win of the season for owner Mario Caponi.

Hello Carlo (Jack Flanigen) settled in fifth in the field of seven as eventual second place finisher Redneck Reindeer (Ken Holliday) set all the fractions, :29.3, :59.3 and 1:29.4. A strong backside brush by Hello Carlo and Flanigen put the winner just a half-length off Redneck Reindeer entering the stretch. A :29.4 last quarter-mile by Hello Carlo put the duo a neck in front at the finish line. Jack Sparrow (Jim McNeight) came in third.

“Winning isn’t hard with him,” said Flanigen. “This horse is iron.”

Trained by Larry Clabaugh, the $4,500 share of the purse put Hello Carlo’s season's bankroll at $45,930 and $127,080 lifetime.

In the $9,000 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace, Bono’s Rainy Lady ($10.00), a 4-year-old Pro Bono Best mare, received a perfect pocket trip from driver Jack Flanigen and then swung to the outside in the stretch to beat second place finisher Faith N Moon (Ray Fisher, Jr.) by a half-length in 1:57.4. Newberry Winner (Jamie Dunlap) came in third.

It was the seventh win of the year for Bono’s Rainy Lady, who is owned and trained by Pete Arrigenna. The $4,500 share of the purse put Bono’s Rainy Lady’s season's bankroll at $24,763 and $43,630 lifetime.
